We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in the recently established laboratory of the department of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery of the university hospital of Cologne (http://neurochirurgie.uk-koeln.de/de/stereotaxie). Our lab focuses on studying, characterizing and improving deep brain stimulation application in the context of psychiatric disorders such as Tourette syndrome, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction and dementia. Potential projects encompass the development of new stimulation techniques such as optogenetic stimulation or closed loop stimulation. Applicants should have demonstrated outstanding performance throughout their previous studies with their own publications. The successful candidate is a highly motivated and exceptionally organized team player with good communication skills. Strong language and writing English skills are also important. Aptitudes in German are advantageous.

A PhD or MD/PhD degree(s) with robust background neuroscience and interest in dementia is essential; knowledge in neurophysiology and/or computational science is highly valued. The project aims at characterizing the potential of nucleus basalis of Meynert as a target for deep brain stimulation in Alzheimer's dementia.

The position is immediately available, with funding for 2 years with possibility of extension up to 2 additional years.
