PhD in Neuroscience

Dear friends,
I would like to announce an available PhD positions in the Institute of Experimental
Medicine, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v.v.i. (http://www.iem.cas.cz/en/)
and at the Institute of Neurosciences, 2nd Faculty of Medicine – Charles University
(https://www.lf2.cuni.cz/en/study/doctoral-studies-in-biomedical-fields). The successful
candidates will be part of the EU funded Centre of Reconstructive Neuroscience
(NeuroRecon) research program. The Centre hosts an international collaborative research
program between Institute of Experimental Medicine (Prague, CR) - John van Geest Centre
for Brain Repair (University of Cambridge) - Faculty of Biological Sciences (University of
Leeds).
Successful PhD-students will be involved to a postgraduate doctoral studies in biomedicine
at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine – Charles University and employed at IEM ASCR with a
salary and benefits. Students will also be encouraged to apply for a stipend from Charles
University.
Projects description:
1. Establishing of astroglial properties leading to the development of
neurodegenerative diseases and central nervous system injury;
2. Evaluation of molecular changes in neural progenitor cells during differentiation
toward mature astrocytes/neurons and evaluation of their therapeutic effect in vivo.
Candidate's profile (requirements):
MUDr., M.Sc. (Mgr.) degree or equivalent in medicine, molecular/cellular biology or
biochemistry, a good command of English, independent thinking but also team player,
strong interest in basic and translational research and experimental work, ability to work
with cell cultures and animals (rodents – training will be provided).
