R&D Technician in Brain Health Platformv“I want to secure tomorrow and enjoy today”
NIHS, Lausanne, Switzerland Undefined period of time contract, act rate 100%

The Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) has recently been established to create and deliver world class excellence in biomedical research to better understand health and disease as influenced by genetics, metabolism and environment with the goal of translating this knowledge into personalized science-based nutrition.

The Institute combines latest technologies and biomedical knowledge to study the molecular mechanisms of chronic diseases. Large-scale functional genomics and mass spectrometry capabilities are integrated with bioinformatics and systems biology to generate holistic molecular insights into nutritionally actionable conditions. Using this integrated systems approach we ultimately aspire to develop nutritional approaches for the prevention of disease and to facilitate healthy aging.

Demonstrating flexibility and excellent problem solving skills, you will be working in a dynamic, multicultural and interdisciplinary research environment. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal lab performance as well as conceiving, conducting, and analysing experiments to identify and evaluate compounds or therapies beneficial for brain health.

Key responsibilities

  • Conceive, conduct and analyze experiments to identify and evaluate compounds in cell-based models. These include, but are not limited to, primary neuronal and glial cell culture and human iPSC-derived neurons.
  • Implement various experimental approaches, including ELISA, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, qRT-PCR and genetic modifications by lentiviral vectors.
  • Conduct research projects in cooperation with researchers and collaborators.
  • Run operational activities of the lab (maintenance of infrastructure, purchasing/servicing of equipment, ordering of consumables, coordination of booking systems, etc).
  • Organize administrative & logistical aspects linked to experimental work (shipments, archiving, etc).
  • Train newcomers & coordinate technical interactions between lab members.
  • Ensure compliance to safety and legal requirements in the lab.

Education and experience

  • Technical diploma in biology (CFC, BTS or equivalent) or BS/MS in cell biology or related field. Experience in neuroscience or neurobiology.
  • Experience in the field of neurodegeneration highly desirable.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in sterile cell culture, primary/iPS-derived neuronal culture, microscopy, molecular biology and common biochemical techniques.
  • Strong expertise in immunostaining, confocal microscopy imaging and image analyses
  • Fluency in English.
  • Show us that you demonstrate strong result focus and initiative, combined with excellent organizational skills.
  • Your capacity to embrace challenge, as well as your team spirit and patience, is what will set you apart from the other candidates.
  • Your excellent communication skills and capacity to multitask will be highly appreciated in our fast-paced environment.

The Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences is based on the campus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
