Applications are invited for a junior group leader to join a multidisciplinary research network (http://www.uibk.ac.at/pharmazie/pharmakologie/sfb-f44/).

We seek a Senior Postdoctoral Neuroscientist to develop, execute and analyse a combination of in vivo electrophysiological, behavioural and optogenetics experiments in rodents as part of scientific projects designed to elucidate central mechanisms involved in chronic diseases of the central nervous system, such as fear/anxiety disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. The post holder will work within the Department of Pharmacology, Medical University of Innsbruck.

Interested candidates should hold a Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent qualification in a relevant area of research, and should have a promising track record in original research in their particular field of neuroscience.
Candidates are also expected to have technical expertise in neurophysiology, and to be able to establish an in vivo physiology lab for multi and single-unit recordings as well as for in vivo optogenetics in behaving mice. Candidates should provide evidence of creative and critical thinking as applied to the advancement and delivery of a focused and cohesive program of research.

The post holder is expected to collaborate with members of the research network in which a transdisciplinary approach is used to elucidate the function and dysfunction of the limbic system and basal ganglia. The network employs innovative molecular, anatomical, behavioural and genetic-based techniques to study these circuits.

The offered position is a fixed-term post for 24 months, with an initial probationary period. Upon positive assessment of the scientific outcome, the position could be renewed for additional 24 months. The starting salary will be in the range of 63.510 to €69.810 per annum depending on the applicant´s experience.
