Molecular Biology of Presynaptic Function
The Neuroscience Institute at Seville
Research Area
The research activity of this group relates to the study of the molecular mechanisms of neurotrans-mitter release and synaptic vesicle cycle at the nerve terminals.
Research topics include the role of synaptic vesicle proteins (Secretory Carrier Membrane Proteins, Cysteine String Proteins and Synaptotagmins) and their interacting partners at the synapse.
The tools used are genetically modified mice (knock-out and transgenic mice), electrophysiological techniques, imaging, and biochemical methods.
In addition, the laboratory is carrying out the generation of transgenic mice to visualize exo- and endocytosis at the nerve terminals.
